"May he have dominion from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.
May his foes bow down before him,and his enemies lick the dust.
May the kings of Tarshish and of the isles, render him tribute and may the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts. May all kings fall down before him, all nations give him service." - Psalm 72:8-11
The three wise men brought gifts to the lord: Gold (From Melchior, a Persian Scholar), Frankincense (From Caspar, a Indian Scholar), and Myrrh (From Balthazar, an Arabian Scholar). Those gifts were completely befitting of a king, wouldn't you say.
In today's society, we have gift giving as well.
Economically speaking from 2006 to 2013, we've spent more than $46 billion in toys and gifts. The average parents will spend on average, at least $500 on toys and gifts for their children.
Gift cards have been the norm lately - gift card buying is up more than 2900% since 2005 because you know, kids can buy what they want nowadays.
So here's what my parents would do, typically, we would get a few gifts and $100. Then the money just keeps adding up as we get presents from our family members.
We would go out shopping the day after Christmas and the malls are usually full and crazy with returns and what not. It's amazing what you see people returning, some of these gifts are great looking gifts but I don't understand why they are returning them.
Today, we seem to be more of a society ran by the notions of greed, unlike the wise men, who brought their gifts out of love. We need to remember what Christmas is really all about. This is about Christ's birth.
Just remember, that's what it's all about.
