Operation: Shutdown (Day 9) - Interstate Zero

Hello Journal,

It was a wild morning with a major accident on 295 that pretty much shut the entire parkway down. That was one crazy accident and the way it came about was absolutely head scratching. A vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian on the southbound side about 4:54 a.m. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

Well, things got back to normal about 8:30am. I had to take Arundel Mills Blvd. to get out of dodge.

Anyway, have you noticed that people on 295 and 695 don't necessarily do the 55mph speed limit? Don't you think it's time for our government to take a look at the AASHTO and CHART stats and say: Hey, maybe... 55mph is just not enough... Let's move it up to 60.

The average speed on 295 is 67.6mph according to AASHTO and CHART. 12.6mph over the 55mph mandated speed limit.

The average speed on 695 is 69.1mph according to AASHTO and CHART. 14.1mph over the 55mph mandated speed limit.

Shouldn't the government take a look at this? I mean come on. It seems to be the right thing to do. 2 cars beeped at me because I was doing 63 in a 55... It's like give me a break, I'm not trying to get a ticket here.

I think Maryland, Our fine Democratic People's Republic of Maryland, needs to see that people are not doing the speed limit or setting themselves at 1-9mph grace... No they have places to go...

So DPRM, do us a favor, raise the speed limit to 60 and make us all happy.

"Until the next post, I'm signing off..."
