Sports and Religion: We need to stop being hypocrites
Hello,
A year ago, Ravens fans were robbed of the NFL Kickoff game due to observance of Rosh Hashanah, a Jewish high holy day due to owners saying no moving the game to that Wednesday and also because NBC was scared of losing it's ad revenues. Bob Kraft was the victor in that as he stuck his hand in Goodell's pocket and said: Hey, no games on Rosh Hashanah.
Ultimately, the Ravens who worked so hard to earn the Kickoff game by winning the Super Bowl the previous season, had to share the spotlight with Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos where NBC could focus on the Golden boy of the NFL.
In turn, he threw 7 touchdown passes and 476 yards in a 49-26 win. Baltimore was robbed... however, this was not the first time that Ravens were duped.
I for one was very angry because the NFL screwed Baltimore over once again and for the second time in 6 years. Remember the hurricane that nearly struck Houston? Yeah, instead of the NFL just moving the game to another city where the home team would get 100% of the profits? They said: Take your bye weeks.
Then we had to play 18 straight weeks of football with NO rest. They could've moved the game like they did with everyone else... and instead... nope... the team suffered again.
The city of Baltimore was given the consolation of the Thanksgiving night game which did not make the wound any better.
However, I think it is time to cease football on Thanksgiving... period.
Thanksgiving was founded on traditional values of God's divine providence and therefore, not a game should be played on that day. In fact, Christians should be given that same treatment as we should be spending time with our families on Thanksgiving over watching a football game.
But wait, the atheists would get mad and go WAHHHHHHHHHHHH! like they typically do. Using their high powered lawyers to say: Hey, that violates the 1st amendment.
Well I'm here to tell you, JUDAISM is a religion!
I personally believe that we need to end Thanksgiving football and Easter baseball as Christianity should be given the same treatment because if we can't have football games on Rosh Hashanah. Then no sports period on Thanksgiving and Easter.
Sorry, if you do for one, you must do for the other.
