The Good Roads of the Nation: Why I like driving 101

"The road to success is always under construction..." - Arnold Palmer

Good Evening,

They say I shouldn't be driving a new car so much or else my 36,000 mile warranty will go in the crapper. Well, it's the truth but there's a lot of reasons why I like to get out on the road and go explore.

First and foremost and the truth, cars were meant to be driven... Not left to get cobwebs on it, dust... You know that sort of thing.

Second of all, driving keeps me sane. It doesn't matter if it's long distance or short distance. It's just a way of keeping me in check.

Third, I practice my charisma while I am in there. It's not much. I just learn how to become a better speaker. Some of the best conversations you can have is with yourself like Alan Alda for instance when he wrote the book: "Things I overheard while talking to myself."

Four, you explore the parts of America you don't necessarily see in the papers or in media, unless you are Charles Kuralt (RIP), who wore out 6 motorhomes for his quarter-century "ON THE ROAD" project with CBS (They've brought it back and I really need to start watching the CBS evening news again). You see America and their doings. People you may never see again in your life time. Weird things you may never see again.

Interstate roads let you get places faster, but if you take the back roads of America... Hey, you may just avoid all the traffic (I did just that).

---

Today, I had something to deal with and everything came out just fine (This is why I like spending my dollar in Delaware). I took my typical route to get to Pennsylvania by heading up I-95 to Exit 89 to Maryland 161 (Darlington Road) to bypass a $6.00 toll. When I got finished what I had to do up there. I was heading home but I made the wrong turn at Ridge Road on US 202 but then I realized, hey... this is a back road... looks nifty... What could possibly go wrong.

So I took a ride down that road and all I saw was road and quiet. Rarely do I listen to the radio because I feel as though radios are distraction to driving. When you come up to a tunnel of trees, it's just remarkable like a piece of art work and I bet you it especially looks nifty when the fall colors arrive.

I left the back road after I found a route to get back on US 1 and promptly went through enemy territory on PA 272. I said to myself: "No regrets..." I just went on my merry way into Maryland and said again no regrets.

---

I later went home and basically counted the blessings that I have. God is great to all of us and as such, he bestows blessings among the believers in him. When you have that belief in the big dude, great things happen and I hope for my sake, when my time comes, I will see my ultimate reward.

---

With the year ever so quickly coming to a close, a lot of things have happened that I didn't expect and now things are changing for the better. When you take the back roads of America, just remember, God is with you 100%. He'll protect and keep you safe.
